Konst expands into Indonesia with SMX01 data center lease

Taiwanese cloud and AI infrastructure provider Konst has signed an agreement to secure data center capacity at SMX01 in Jakarta, Indonesia, establishing a new base for its GPU cloud and enterprise compute services in Southeast Asia. The agreement brings Konst together with SM+ Data Centers and LG Sinar Mas as the company prepares its first compute deployment outside Taiwan.

The arrangement is centered on SMX01, an upcoming Jakarta data center being developed by LG Sinar Mas, SM+ Data Centers, and Korea Investment Real Asset Management. The facility is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2026 and is being built to accommodate high-density computing requirements associated with AI and other demanding workloads.

For Konst, the agreement represents a shift from operating primarily from Taiwan toward deploying compute infrastructure within a Southeast Asian market. For Jakarta's data center sector, the deal also illustrates how specialized AI infrastructure providers are increasingly using colocation and dedicated capacity rather than developing every facility themselves.

SMX01 targets high-density AI infrastructure

SMX01 is designed around the power and cooling requirements of high-density computing. The facility is planned with a total capacity of 27MW, with the initial phase targeting 6MW. Its infrastructure is designed to support rack densities of up to 130kW, according to information released about the project.

Liquid cooling is also part of the infrastructure strategy. The combination of high rack density and liquid-cooled systems is particularly relevant to GPU-based deployments, where conventional air-cooling configurations can become increasingly difficult to operate as computing density rises.

Konst's deployment is expected to use this high-density environment for GPU infrastructure supporting its cloud and enterprise computing offerings. GPU servers will be supplied by Giga Computing, while Raydian Cloud is responsible for GPU cluster deployment and operations, according to the companies' announcements.

That structure creates a multi-company infrastructure chain spanning data center capacity, server hardware, GPU cluster deployment, and cloud services. Such arrangements can allow AI infrastructure providers to enter new markets without having to independently develop the underlying facility, power systems and cooling infrastructure.

Jakarta's role in the agreement is significant because the city is already an established center for Indonesia's digital infrastructure market. SMX01 adds another facility aimed specifically at workloads requiring greater power density and specialized infrastructure.

The project was announced in 2024 as a joint venture involving LG Sinar Mas, SM+ Data Centers, and Korea Investment Real Asset Management, with construction beginning in March 2025. The facility has since progressed toward completion, with its opening targeted for the fourth quarter of 2026.

The Konst agreement provides an identifiable AI-oriented tenant for the facility ahead of its planned opening. From a data center development perspective, such commitments can help connect new capacity with actual compute demand as facilities move through construction and commissioning.

The arrangement also reflects a broader change in the type of infrastructure being deployed across Southeast Asian data center markets. Demand is increasingly extending beyond conventional enterprise colocation toward infrastructure capable of supporting GPU clusters, AI training, inference, and other accelerated computing workloads.

A different model for AI infrastructure expansion

Konst's approach highlights the importance of access to suitable data center environments as AI infrastructure companies expand geographically. Building a new facility from the ground up requires substantial investment in land, power, cooling, connectivity, and operations. Leasing capacity from an established operator can provide a more direct route to deployment.

The SMX01 arrangement therefore gives Konst access to infrastructure designed for high-density workloads while allowing the company to concentrate on its GPU cloud and compute services.

The model can also create advantages for data center operators. AI-focused tenants bring workloads that require substantially different infrastructure characteristics from traditional enterprise applications, including higher rack power, specialized cooling, and greater attention to GPU deployment and operational requirements.

The involvement of Raydian Cloud further separates the facility operation from the compute-service layer. SM+ and LG Sinar Mas provide the data center environment, while the deployment and operation of GPU clusters are handled by a specialized infrastructure provider.

Konst's expansion comes as Southeast Asian markets develop additional infrastructure for AI and cloud computing. Indonesia is increasingly part of this regional infrastructure conversation because of its large domestic digital economy and growing requirements for local computing capacity.

The SMX01 agreement does not, by itself, establish the scale of Konst's eventual Indonesian deployment beyond its planned use of capacity at the facility. The companies have not publicly disclosed the specific amount of capacity being leased by Konst in the available announcements.

That distinction is important because the overall capacity of a data center should not be interpreted as the capacity allocated to an individual tenant. SMX01's planned 27MW total capacity and its first-phase capacity describe the facility rather than Konst's specific deployment.

The available information instead points to a deployment focused on high-density GPU infrastructure, giving Konst a physical base from which to provide compute services in Southeast Asia.

Building an AI-ready digital infrastructure ecosystem

The partnership brings several layers of the AI infrastructure supply chain into one deployment. SMX01 provides the physical data center environment and high-density power and cooling capabilities; Konst brings its GPU cloud and enterprise compute services; Giga Computing supplies GPU servers; and Raydian Cloud manages cluster deployment and operations.

Such specialization is becoming increasingly important as AI infrastructure becomes more complex. Data center operators are required to accommodate higher-density equipment, while cloud and AI providers need access to facilities capable of supporting those systems reliably.

For Jakarta, the development adds another example of data center capacity being positioned around accelerated computing rather than general-purpose workloads alone. For Konst, it provides an infrastructure platform for its Southeast Asian expansion without requiring the company to develop an entirely new data center.

The effectiveness of the strategy will ultimately depend on deployment execution, power availability, cooling performance, network connectivity, and demand for GPU services in the Indonesian market. Those factors will become clearer as SMX01 approaches its planned opening and Konst moves its infrastructure into operation.

The agreement nevertheless represents a notable step in the evolution of Jakarta's digital infrastructure landscape, linking a new high-density data center with an international AI infrastructure provider and creating another pathway for GPU compute capacity to enter the Southeast Asian market.
