Equinix AM5: 13MW High-Density Amsterdam South East Hub

Status: Live / Operational (Active AI-Ready Upgrades)   |   Location: Amsterdam

Project Overview

Equinix AM5 is a premier International Business Exchange™ (IBX) data center located on the network-dense Amsterdam Southeast campus, acting as a foundational digital crossroads for Western Europe. Operating as one of the continent's most connected facilities, AM5 directly hosts a vital point of presence for the Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX), offering enterprises and cloud providers ultra-low latency access to 80% of Europe within just 50 milliseconds. The facility features a total power capacity of 13 MW and has been upgraded with high-density infrastructure configurations capable of supporting up to 15 kW per rack, making it a critical site for distributed hybrid compute and modern cloud application ecosystems. Structurally, AM5 is a highly sustainable, two-story facility that sets environmental benchmarks by using Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage (ATES) technology, relying on deep groundwater cooling layers and surface pumps instead of energy-intensive mechanical chillers. Connected seamlessly via campus cross-connects to adjacent hubs like AM1, AM2, and AM7, the AM5 data center provides secure, multi-tenant colocation environments backed by rigorous global certifications, including ISO 27001, PCI DSS, and SOC 2, ensuring premium operational resilience for global financial, content, and cloud enterprises.
