Equinix KL2 Kuala Lumpur: 1.4MW High-Density Interconnection Hub
Status: Operational / Phase 1 Complete | Location: Cyberjaya Tech Hub, Kuala Lumpur
Project Overview
The Equinix KL2 IBX data center is a strategic facility designed to bolster Malaysia's digital competitiveness and facilitate global enterprise expansion within the Southeast Asian market. Located in the tech-centric district of Cyberjaya, KL2 serves as a vital interconnection gateway, complementing Equinix's JH1 facility in Johor. While JH1 focuses on the cross-border traffic between Malaysia and Singapore, KL2 is positioned as the primary hub for the domestic enterprise market and global cloud service providers looking for a foothold in the capital region. Advanced Interconnection and Ecosystems
The core strength of KL2 lies in its "Platform Equinix" integration. It provides businesses with a dense ecosystem of over 1,800 network service providers and 3,000 cloud, IT, and content providers globally. This facility allows Malaysian enterprises to bypass the public internet and connect directly to their partners and customers via Equinix Fabric. This low-latency connectivity is essential for modern digital operations, including real-time financial trading, content delivery, and the integration of hybrid multi-cloud architectures. Sustainability and Design Efficiency KL2 is built with Equinix’s global sustainability standards in mind. The facility targets high energy efficiency through the implementation of advanced cooling technologies and hot/cold aisle containment. As part of Equinix’s commitment to reaching climate neutrality by 2030, KL2 is designed to utilize renewable energy sources where available, supported by International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-RECs). The cooling systems are optimized for the tropical climate of Malaysia, ensuring a stable environment for mission-critical hardware while maintaining a competitive Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE). Supporting the Digital Malaysia Vision The launch of KL2 directly supports the Malaysia Digital (MD) initiative and the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030. By providing world-class colocation services and a robust interconnection platform, Equinix is enabling local businesses to digitize their operations and compete on a global scale. The facility also acts as a magnet for foreign direct investment, as global firms often look for familiar, reliable data center partners like Equinix when entering new territories.
