Batam Island: 360MW NVIDIA AI Factory & DayOne Hub Indonesia
Status: Announced / Strategic Partnership Finalized | Location: Pulau, Kabil, Kecamatan Nongsa, Kota Batam, Kepulauan Riau 29433, Indonesia
Project Overview
The Batam AI Factory Campus represents a massive leap forward for Asia-Pacific’s sovereign and commercial high-performance computing landscape. Officially announced on June 28, 2026, through an exclusive eight-year framework agreement between Australian infrastructure pioneer Firmus, Singapore-based digital developer DayOne, and NVIDIA Corporation, the project establishes a flagship 360-megawatt (MW) computing footprint on Batam Island, Indonesia. Strategically positioned just off the coast of Singapore, the hyper-dense facility bypasses Singapore's strict land and power constraints while offering sub-millisecond proximity to the city-state's global financial and connectivity networks. The multi-phased campus acts as a massive regional engine for global AI-native enterprises, hyperscalers, and large language model (LLM) training. Engineering for the Batam campus focuses extensively on mitigating the massive electrical and thermal envelopes required by high-density graphic processing units (GPUs). At full deployment, the campus will ingest up to 170,000 next-generation NVIDIA AI chips through 2027 and 2028. To handle these extreme thermal demands efficiently, the project utilizes Firmus's proprietary hyper-efficiency infrastructure featuring an advanced closed-loop direct-to-chip liquid cooling network combined with clean air heat rejection blocks. This architecture entirely eliminates continuous freshwater evaporation systems, a crucial factor for preserving the island's domestic water security. Financially, the project leverages a powerful revenue-sharing structure: Firmus and DayOne will sell NVIDIA-powered cloud services directly to global clients, with NVIDIA capturing standard hardware margins alongside a long-term slice of cloud revenues.
