Friesen Elektra 400MW Capacity Colocation Data Center Facility In Sande

Status: Under Construction   |   Location: Wasserstoffpark Friesland, 26452 Sande, Lower Saxony, Germany

Project Overview

Friesen Elektra Lower Saxony is a major clean energy and high-density industrial infrastructure hub located at Wasserstoffpark Friesland in Sande, Lower Saxony, Germany. Jointly developed by Friesen Elektra Green Energy AG and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) through its Energy Transition Fund, the 21-hectare campus is designed to combine renewable power generation, green hydrogen production, and energy-intensive industrial applications within an integrated infrastructure environment. The project includes a 400 MW green hydrogen electrolysis facility, with the potential to expand capacity to 800 MW as demand for low-carbon industrial energy increases. Co-located wind and solar generation assets provide renewable electricity for hydrogen production, supporting a direct connection between clean power generation and high-energy industrial operations. The campus also benefits from its connection to a regional electrical substation node with approximately 3 GW of capacity, providing access to substantial grid infrastructure for power-intensive operations. Integration with Germany’s national hydrogen core network, known as the Wasserstoff-Kernnetz, further strengthens the site's role within the country’s emerging hydrogen infrastructure. The combination of renewable generation, large-scale electrolysis, grid connectivity, and hydrogen network access creates an infrastructure platform suitable for heavy industrial decarbonization and other high-density energy applications. Its location in Friesland also provides access to the wider industrial and energy ecosystem of Lower Saxony, where renewable energy and hydrogen infrastructure are becoming increasingly important to industrial development. The campus is therefore positioned as an integrated energy and industrial infrastructure site capable of supporting future expansion in green hydrogen production, renewable power utilization, and electricity-intensive workloads.
