Google Kronstorf AI Data Center
Status: Under Construction (Groundbreaking) | Location: Business Park Kronstorf
Project Overview
The Google Kronstorf Data Center in Upper Austria represents a pivotal expansion for Google Cloud in Central Europe. Officially breaking ground on April 23, 2026, this project is not merely a capacity addition but a strategic shift toward "Agentic AI" infrastructure. As enterprises transition from simple generative AI to autonomous AI agents, the demand for localised, high-compute environments has surged. Google’s €1.1 billion investment in Kronstorf is designed to anchor this demand for the DACH region (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland) and beyond. The selection of Kronstorf as a site followed years of careful planning and environmental assessment. Situated in the Business Park Kronstorf-Harkamp, the facility benefits from Austria’s robust electrical grid and its position as a central transit point for European data traffic. At its peak, the campus will support a 150MW IT load, making it one of the largest single-site cloud regions in the country. This location provides ultra-low latency connectivity to major industrial hubs in Linz and Vienna, ensuring that Austrian enterprises can deploy mission-critical AI workloads without the lag associated with distant German or Irish hubs.
