Meta Kansas City: $1B AI-Optimized Data Center Missouri

Status: Operational / Serving Traffic (March 2026)   |   Location: golden plains technology park ,kansas city

Project Overview

Formally brought online in August 2025, Meta’s Kansas City campus represents a significant evolution in hyperscale infrastructure, purpose-built to meet the rapidly intensifying demands of artificial intelligence workloads. Located in Kansas City within the expansive 5.5-million-square-foot Golden Plains Technology Park, the $1 billion facility serves as a foundational pillar for Meta’s growing AI ecosystem, supporting applications such as Meta AI, Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, and the Quest virtual reality platform. Unlike traditional data centers, the campus is engineered with AI-first architecture, prioritizing high-density compute, ultra-low latency networking, and advanced thermal management systems required for next-generation machine learning models.

A defining feature of the facility is its adoption of cutting-edge liquid-to-chip cooling technologies, which enable efficient heat dissipation directly at the processor level. This approach significantly enhances energy efficiency while supporting the extreme power densities associated with custom AI accelerators. In parallel, the campus demonstrates a strong commitment to sustainability and resource optimization. During construction, the project conserved over 1 million gallons of potable water by leveraging onsite retention ponds for dust suppression and site operations, setting an early benchmark for water stewardship in large-scale infrastructure development.

Beyond its technical and environmental innovations, the Kansas City campus also plays a meaningful role in local economic and community development. At peak construction, the project generated approximately 1,500 jobs, transitioning to around 100 permanent operational roles post-completion. In March 2026, Meta further reinforced its community engagement by announcing 13 local grants, including support for the Make48 initiative, which focuses on equipping middle school students with AI and STEAM skills. This integration of advanced infrastructure with community investment highlights the campus not only as a technological asset but also as a catalyst for regional growth and digital skill development.
