NEXTDC KL1: 65MW Tier IV AI Factory in Malaysia

Status: Under Construction / Phased Handover (April 2026)   |   Location: NEXTDC KL1, Kuala Lumpur

Project Overview

As of April 2026, KL1 stands as the centerpiece of NEXTDC’s international expansion, representing a significant RM3 billion investment in Malaysia and underscoring the company’s commitment to the Southeast Asian market. Technically, it is the first Tier IV-certified facility in Peninsular Malaysia exceeding 5MW, engineered to meet the extreme power density and cooling requirements of next-generation AI and high-performance computing clusters. The design emphasizes scalability, resilience, and efficiency, enabling customers to deploy increasingly dense GPU-based infrastructure. In April 2026, Mitrajaya Holdings secured an additional RM54 million contract for Stage 4 early works, bringing the total construction contract value to RM844.6 million and signaling continued development momentum. Once fully built, KL1 is designed to support up to 65MW of IT load, positioning it among the region’s most advanced digital infrastructure assets. It has also achieved a Platinum Provisional Rating under Malaysia’s Green Building Index (GBI), reflecting a strong focus on sustainability and energy efficiency. Strategically, KL1 serves as a key regional hub, offering a “sovereign-ready” environment for hyperscalers, cloud providers, and enterprises seeking to scale AI workloads while meeting data residency and regulatory requirements across Southeast Asia.
