Nostrum Evergreen Badajoz: €1.9B 500MW AI Data Center Spain

Status: Permitting / Pre-Construction (March 2026)   |   Location: Badajoz

Project Overview

Nostrum Evergreen stands as a flagship hyperscale initiative positioned to meet accelerating AI and cloud demand across Europe, with a total investment of €1.9 billion ($2.2 billion). Developed by Nostrum Group, the project is located in Badajoz within the energy-rich region of Extremadura. As of March 13, 2026, the company has formally submitted the Major Works Permit for Phase 1, which is designed to deliver 170 MW of IT capacity, with “Ready-to-Build” status anticipated by September 2026 placing it on a fast-track development timeline relative to other European data center markets.

A critical differentiator for Nostrum Evergreen is its early-stage power procurement strategy. The project has already secured 300 MW of guaranteed grid capacity ahead of Spain’s national Spanish Electrical Grid Development Plan (2025–2030), effectively insulating it from the widespread grid congestion that is delaying deployments in core hubs such as Madrid. This proactive approach to power access significantly enhances certainty around delivery timelines and positions the campus as a near-term capacity solution for hyperscalers facing constraints elsewhere in Europe.

From a technical standpoint, the campus is engineered for ultra-high efficiency and sustainability. It targets a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.1, placing it among the most efficient large-scale facilities globally, and incorporates a zero-water cooling architecture. This design is particularly critical in Extremadura, where water scarcity is an ongoing structural challenge, and aligns with broader industry shifts toward minimizing resource intensity while supporting increasingly dense AI workloads.
