SoftBank Group Bosquel AI Data Center: 1GW Sovereign Hyperscale Campus Hauts-de-France

Status: Announced / Pre-Development & Site Planning   |   Location: Bosquel, Communauté de Communes Somme Sud-Ouest, Hauts-de-France, France

Project Overview

The SoftBank Bosquel AI Data Center Campus is a flagship 1 GW greenfield digital infrastructure development planned in the Hauts-de-France region of northern France, positioning it as one of the region’s most significant proposed facilities for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing. Developed through a joint venture between SoftBank Group and French AI infrastructure platform Sesterce, the Bosquel campus forms a central component of SoftBank’s broader European strategy to develop multi-gigawatt AI infrastructure capable of supporting the rapidly increasing computational requirements of advanced AI systems. The facility is designed to accommodate large-scale AI model training, inference workloads, high-performance computing, and sovereign European cloud services, providing substantial capacity for hyperscalers, AI companies, technology enterprises, and other organizations requiring dedicated high-density compute infrastructure. Its strategic location in Hauts-de-France provides access to major European technology and commercial markets, while its geographic position places the campus within relatively low-latency reach of key connectivity hubs including Paris, Brussels, London, Amsterdam, and Frankfurt. The development is expected to incorporate advanced direct liquid cooling technologies designed to manage the intense thermal loads generated by modern GPU clusters and other high-density AI computing systems. This cooling architecture can support greater rack densities while improving thermal management and operational efficiency compared with conventional air-cooling approaches. The campus is also positioned to benefit from France’s electricity infrastructure, including its comparatively low-carbon power generation mix, supporting the growing sustainability requirements of energy-intensive AI workloads. By combining massive planned power capacity, advanced cooling systems, strategic European connectivity, and access to lower-carbon electricity, the Bosquel AI Data Center Campus is positioned as a major potential hub for Europe’s emerging AI infrastructure ecosystem. The project also reflects the accelerating shift toward purpose-built data center campuses designed specifically around the power, cooling, networking, and scalability requirements of next-generation artificial intelligence.
