Stargate UAE Phase 1 200MW AI Compute Cluster
Status: Phase 1 Commissioned | Location: Abu Dhabi
Project Overview
The Stargate UAE project, officially commissioned for its first phase in February 2026, represents the pinnacle of sovereign AI infrastructure. Located within a dedicated 10-square-mile AI campus in Abu Dhabi, this facility is the result of a landmark international partnership involving G42, OpenAI, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and SoftBank. The project is designed specifically to meet the skyrocketing demand for "nation-scale" compute power, focusing on training large language models (LLMs) and performing high-density AI inferencing.
Phase 1 delivers 200 MW of IT capacity, utilizing the latest NVIDIA Grace Blackwell GB300 systems to provide unprecedented processing speeds. Unlike traditional data centers, Stargate is architected for extreme rack densities, likely exceeding 100 kW per rack, necessitating advanced liquid cooling solutions. The facility serves as a core engine for the UAE's "Vision 2030" goals, ensuring the nation has the sovereign capability to develop and host world-class AI applications locally.
Sustainability is integrated into the campus's DNA; the project is powered by a tri-source energy strategy including Nuclear (from the Barakah Plant), Solar, and Natural Gas. This ensures a stable, massive power supply required for the GB300 chips while maintaining a roadmap toward carbon neutrality. By providing local access to OpenAI’s models and Oracle’s sovereign cloud services, Stargate UAE eliminates the latency and data residency hurdles that previously slowed AI adoption in the Middle East. At its full buildout, the campus is expected to reach a staggering 1 GW of capacity, making it one of the largest AI-dedicated clusters on the planet.
