Zerra DC Melbourne Campus Data Center 336MW Campbellfield

Status: Announced / Under Planning Assessment (Victorian Development Facilitation Program)   |   Location: 300–340 Barry Road, Campbellfield, Victoria 3061, Australia (Former Ford Motor Co. Assembly Site)

Project Overview

The Zerra DC Melbourne Campus is a major proposed digital infrastructure development located at 300–340 Barry Road in Campbellfield, within Melbourne’s northern industrial corridor in Victoria, Australia. Developed by Zerra DC, a hyperscale data centre platform backed by global infrastructure and real assets investor AGP Group, the project is planned to deliver approximately 336 MW of power capacity across a six-stage campus comprising six data hall buildings. The development will redevelop the former Ford automotive manufacturing site, transforming historically industrial land into a large-scale digital infrastructure hub to support Australia’s growing demand for cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and enterprise data services. Its location within an established industrial precinct offers access to existing high-voltage electricity infrastructure and telecommunications connectivity, supporting the requirements of power-intensive data centre operations. The masterplan includes a staged delivery strategy, with the initial phase proposed to feature a data hall, substation, and a 5 MW battery energy storage system designed to help manage electricity demand. The campus is also planned to use an air-cooled design that eliminates the need for water-based evaporative cooling, potentially reducing operational water consumption compared with conventional evaporative cooling systems. At full development, the project is expected to contribute to Melbourne’s expanding digital infrastructure capacity and support businesses requiring secure, scalable computing and storage resources. Zerra has identified a target service commencement of 2028 for the first stage, subject to approvals and delivery milestones, while subsequent phases are intended to proceed progressively in response to customer demand. The planning application was submitted through Victoria’s Development Facilitation Program and remains under assessment, making regulatory approval and infrastructure delivery important milestones for the project.
