Datagrid New Zealand is a privately held digital infrastructure company developing a large scale hyperscale AI data center campus in Makarewa, Southland. Founded in 2020, the company was established by technology and telecommunications entrepreneurs including Rémi Galasso and Malcolm Dick. Its flagship project is designed to provide approximately 280 MW of capacity for artificial intelligence training, processing, and data storage. The campus will use New Zealand's renewable electricity resources and connect to the proposed Tasman Ring Network, providing international subsea connectivity between New Zealand and Australia. Datagrid received full resource consent in March 2026, allowing development of what it describes as New Zealand's first AI factory.
