Madrid, Spain - July 22, 2026 - Telxius has expanded its digital infrastructure footprint in the Caribbean by launching a new Point of Presence (PoP) at the NAP Caribe data center in Santo Domingo, a move aimed at strengthening regional connectivity for cloud providers, enterprises, carriers, and data center operators.
The new PoP extends Telxius' global fiber network into one of the Caribbean's leading carrier-neutral data center facilities, providing customers with direct access to the company's international transport, IP, security, and interconnection services. The expansion is expected to improve network performance and resiliency while supporting growing demand for cloud computing, AI workloads, and digital services across the region.
Located in the Dominican Republic, NAP Caribe serves as a major interconnection hub for the Caribbean, hosting telecommunications operators, internet service providers, enterprises, and cloud platforms. By establishing infrastructure within the facility, Telxius is enabling customers to connect more efficiently to its global subsea and terrestrial network without relying on additional third-party connections.
For the data center industry, the expansion highlights the increasing importance of network connectivity as a critical component of digital infrastructure. As hyperscale cloud providers and enterprises deploy larger AI and high-performance computing workloads, low-latency international connectivity has become as essential as power and cooling in supporting modern data center operations. The new PoP is designed to provide customers with faster access to international markets while improving redundancy for mission-critical applications.
The announcement also builds on Telxius' existing presence in the Caribbean, where the company already operates subsea cable infrastructure connecting the region with North America, Latin America, and Europe. Combined with its cable landing facilities in Punta Cana, the Santo Domingo expansion creates another strategic gateway for international data traffic flowing through the Caribbean, enhancing route diversity and network resilience.
Regional demand for digital infrastructure has accelerated as governments and enterprises invest in cloud adoption, digital transformation, and AI-enabled services.
