Project Overview

The Adriatic DC Bari Data Center is a major €2 billion, approximately $2.2 billion, brownfield digital infrastructure transformation project that repurposes the historic Manifattura Tabacchi, or Tobacco Factory, complex in Bari, Italy. Developed by Adriatic DC, the project is planned as a 200 MW data center campus and serves as a flagship anchor for the broader “Puglia Data Center Valley” initiative, which aims to establish Apulia as an important Mediterranean destination for hyperscale cloud, artificial intelligence, and digital infrastructure investment. The redevelopment represents a strategic conversion of an established industrial site into a modern high-capacity computing environment, combining the advantages of existing infrastructure and urban connectivity with the requirements of next-generation data centers. The campus is designed to support hyperscale cloud platforms, high-performance computing, AI workloads, and other data-intensive applications requiring substantial power and network capacity. Its location in Bari provides an important geographic advantage, positioning the development along emerging digital routes connecting Southern Europe with the Mediterranean, Middle East, and Asia. The project is particularly significant for subsea connectivity, as Apulia’s position enables data traffic to move between European cloud networks and international fiber systems extending toward Middle Eastern and Asian markets. This connectivity could help reduce latency for cross-regional digital services while strengthening Italy’s role within the wider Mediterranean digital ecosystem. The 200 MW capacity also provides significant scalability for future deployments as demand for AI computing and cloud infrastructure continues to expand.
