Project Overview

AMACO Mombasa Data Center, also known as Project HERCULES, is a planned $1.5 billion, 100 MW off-grid, AI-ready hyperscale data center development situated along the coastal corridor of Mombasa, Kenya. Developed by Greek multinational AMACO Energy Group in partnership with GE Vernova, the project is designed around an independent offshore energy architecture that uses LNG-fired power generation barges equipped with GE Vernova gas turbines, allowing the campus to operate independently of Kenya's national electricity grid. This dedicated power model provides the development with direct control over its primary electricity supply while supporting the substantial energy requirements associated with hyperscale cloud computing and high-density artificial intelligence workloads. The campus is designed to accommodate extreme rack densities required for frontier AI training, inference, and other compute-intensive applications, with direct-to-chip and immersion liquid cooling capabilities planned to manage high thermal loads efficiently. Heat recovery technology is also incorporated into the infrastructure design, creating opportunities to improve energy utilization by recovering and repurposing heat generated during data center operations. N+1 power redundancy provides additional resilience for mission-critical computing environments, while dual carrier-neutral Meet-Me-Rooms create diverse interconnection points for telecommunications carriers, cloud providers, network operators, and enterprise customers. Low-latency dark fiber connectivity provides access to major regional exchange points and supports efficient data transmission across East African digital infrastructure networks. The Mombasa location provides strategic proximity to East Africa's subsea cable landing infrastructure, creating connectivity opportunities for international cloud, content, telecommunications, and enterprise traffic. The combination of independent offshore power generation, large-scale capacity, advanced liquid cooling, heat recovery, redundant electrical infrastructure, and carrier-neutral connectivity establishes Project HERCULES as an AI-ready hyperscale development designed around the power and connectivity requirements of next-generation computing in East Africa.
