Project Summary

Apple Guiyang Data Center Guizhou: $1B iCloud Facility in China

Status: Fully Operational Hyperscale Cloud Data Center   |   Location: Xing'an Blvd, Pingba District 561100 Guiyang China

Project Overview

Apple Guiyang Data Center is Apple's primary cloud infrastructure facility in mainland China, strategically located in the Gui'an New Area near Guiyang, Guizhou Province. Developed through a strategic investment of approximately US$1 billion in collaboration with the Guizhou Provincial Government, the hyperscale campus is operated in partnership with Guizhou-Cloud Big Data (GCBD), a state-supervised cloud services provider. The facility was established to comply with China's data sovereignty and cybersecurity regulations, enabling Apple to store and manage iCloud data for users within mainland China in accordance with local legal requirements. As a cornerstone of Apple's cloud infrastructure in the country, the data center supports hundreds of millions of Apple users by hosting iCloud services, including photos, backups, documents, contacts, calendars, and other cloud-based applications that require secure, reliable, and high-performance storage. Purpose-built for large-scale cloud operations, the campus incorporates resilient electrical and mechanical infrastructure, redundant utility connections, advanced UPS systems, standby backup generators, and energy-efficient cooling technologies designed to ensure continuous availability and operational reliability. High levels of physical security are maintained through multi-layer access controls, continuous CCTV surveillance, environmental monitoring, and advanced fire detection and suppression systems to safeguard critical infrastructure and customer data. The facility is also designed with a strong sustainability focus, operating on 100% renewable electricity to reduce carbon emissions and improve overall environmental performance in line with Apple's global clean energy commitments. Dual-path network connectivity provides resilient, low-latency access to national telecommunications infrastructure, ensuring high service availability and reliable cloud performance for users across mainland China. As one of Apple's most significant international cloud investments, the Guiyang Data Center plays a vital role in supporting the company's long-term cloud services strategy while strengthening digital infrastructure capacity, enhancing data localization capabilities, and delivering secure, compliant, and energy-efficient cloud services for customers throughout mainland China.
