AWS Aragon Expansion: 33.7B Euro AI & Cloud Infrastructure
Status: Announced / Under Expansion | Location: Zaragoza, Multi-site: Zaragoza, Huesca, and Teruel (Aragon Region)
Project Overview
The AWS Aragon Expansion is a landmark digital infrastructure project, marking Amazon’s largest-ever technological investment in Spain with a commitment of €33.7 billion. Launched officially in early March 2026, this project aims to transform the Aragon region into Europe’s primary hub for artificial intelligence and cloud computing. The expansion covers three key provinces Zaragoza, Huesca, and Teruel making AWS the first major provider to establish a footprint in Teruel.
This multi-billion euro initiative is designed to meet the surging demand for generative AI and advanced cloud services across the EMEA region. Beyond digital storage, the project includes a sophisticated circular economy strategy with the construction of supply chain facilities, including a server manufacturing plant for assembly and testing and a dedicated AI/ML server repair facility.
Environmentally, the project is a flagship for AWS’s sustainability goals. It is powered by 100% renewable energy, supported by Amazon’s extensive portfolio of solar and wind farms in Spain. The infrastructure utilizes advanced water-cooling technologies and "closed-loop" systems to minimize environmental impact. Economically, the expansion is projected to support nearly 30,000 jobs annually and contribute over €31 billion to Spain’s GDP, solidifying the country’s position as a digital leader in the post-AI era.
