Project Overview
The AWS Gilroy Data Center is a flagship $2 billion hyperscale cloud infrastructure campus located on a 56-acre site in Gilroy, at the southern end of Santa Clara County, California. Developed directly by Amazon Web Services (AWS), the facility is designed to expand the company’s cloud infrastructure capacity in the Northern California market and provide additional availability zone capacity for the AWS US-West (Northern California) region. The campus comprises two single-story data center buildings, identified as Building 1 and Building 2, with a combined floor area of approximately 438,500 square feet, supported by a separate 2,500-square-foot security building. The development represents a major investment in hyperscale digital infrastructure and is engineered to accommodate the growing requirements of cloud computing, enterprise applications, artificial intelligence, data analytics, and other data-intensive workloads. The campus incorporates dedicated high-voltage utility infrastructure to support the substantial and reliable electricity requirements associated with large-scale data center operations. Sustainability is also a key component of the development, with the facility designed to operate using 100% carbon-free electricity supplied through Silicon Valley Clean Energy, helping reduce the carbon intensity associated with its power consumption. The data center also incorporates advanced recycled-water cooling systems, supporting more efficient management of the substantial heat generated by high-density computing equipment while reducing reliance on potable water resources. Its location in Gilroy provides AWS with additional infrastructure capacity within the broader Silicon Valley technology ecosystem while maintaining access to established telecommunications, power, and transportation networks.
