AWS Madison County: 1GW $10B AI Data Center Campus MS
Status: Under Construction / Phase 1 Commissioning | Location: Madison County Mega Site & Ridgeland
Project Overview
AWS Madison County, codenamed "Project Atlas," is the single largest private investment in Mississippi’s history. Announced in early 2024 and entering a high-velocity commissioning phase in March 2026, the project spans two massive campuses totaling over 1,700 acres. These sites are the crown jewels of Mississippi’s "Digital Delta," designed to house the massive compute power required for AWS’s generative AI services and global cloud infrastructure.
The project is a titan of infrastructure, with a total power requirement of 1 gigawatt—equivalent to powering 700,000 homes. To mitigate the environmental and community impact of such scale, AWS and Entergy Mississippi have implemented a "Fair Share Plus" model. This ensures that AWS pays for the billions in grid upgrades directly, resulting in projected ratepayer savings of $5 billion over 20 years for local residents. The site is notable for its massive backup fleet, featuring over 700 diesel generators across both campuses to ensure 24/7 uptime for mission-critical AI training.
