The DataVita DV4 Data Centre is a major hyperscale digital infrastructure development planned on a 9.67-hectare site south of Lancaster Avenue in Chapelhall, Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, ML6 8XN, Scotland, UK. Developed by Scottish cloud and data centre operator DataVita, part of HFD Group, the proposed £850 million development represents the next major expansion of DataVita’s established Chapelhall data centre campus and is positioned within Scotland’s first AI Growth Zone, the Lanarkshire AI Growth Zone. The DV4 facility is planned to deliver 120.0 MW of critical IT capacity, providing substantial computing infrastructure for cloud services, artificial intelligence, high-performance computing and other data-intensive digital applications. The development has been designed around Scotland’s environmental objectives and is intended to comply with the Scottish Government’s green data centre guidelines. A key element of the project is its proposed use of 100% certificated Scottish renewable grid electricity, supporting lower-carbon digital infrastructure while reducing reliance on fossil-fuel-based power generation. DV4 will also incorporate a sealed, closed-loop liquid cooling system designed to eliminate evaporative water loss and improve cooling efficiency for high-density computing environments. In addition, the project includes an integrated waste heat recovery strategy that could capture excess heat generated by the data centre and redirect it into local heat networks. Potential beneficiaries include the nearby Monklands Replacement Hospital and the BioCity campus, supporting wider local energy efficiency and sustainability objectives. Through its combination of large-scale computing capacity, renewable electricity, advanced cooling technology and heat recovery, DV4 is positioned as a significant component of Scotland’s emerging AI and digital infrastructure ecosystem.
