Digital Connexion Vizag: $11B 1GW Reliance Brookfield AI Data Center

Status: Under Construction (Phase 1 Groundbreaking)   |   Location: Visakhapatnam Industrial Zone

Project Overview

Announced in late 2025 as a strategic response to the accelerating global demand for artificial intelligence compute capacity, the Visakhapatnam AI Hub represents the most ambitious development undertaken by Digital Connexion, the joint venture between Reliance Industries, Brookfield Infrastructure, and Digital Realty. Backed by a total investment of approximately $11 billion (₹98,000 crore), the 400-acre campus is being purpose-built for AI-native workloads, including large-scale generative AI model training and high-density GPU and TPU-based inference operations. Unlike traditional data center designs, the facility emphasizes ultra-high power density, advanced liquid cooling systems, and scalable modular infrastructure tailored for next-generation AI clusters. The project is strategically positioned as a complementary “twin” to Reliance’s planned 1GW Jamnagar AI data center, together forming a geographically distributed, resilient AI backbone spanning India’s western and eastern coasts. A major differentiator is the integration of a massive 6 GWp solar power project being developed in parallel, enabling the campus to operate on 100% renewable energy and align with global sustainability benchmarks. Additionally, Visakhapatnam’s coastal location provides a critical advantage through new subsea cable landing opportunities, enhancing international connectivity and offering route diversity beyond the traditionally congested Mumbai and Chennai corridors, thereby improving latency, redundancy, and network resilience for global AI workloads.
