Status: Initial Phase Operational / Rapid Scaling Phase | Location: Starting with Mumbai/Navi Mumbai hub
Confirmed in February 2026, this strategic partnership positions OpenAI as the first anchor tenant of the HyperVault AI infrastructure platform developed by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). The initiative is designed to meet India’s increasingly strict data residency, sovereignty, and cybersecurity requirements for sensitive enterprise, financial, and government workloads. By hosting advanced AI infrastructure within the country, the platform enables organizations to deploy large-scale AI applications while ensuring compliance with national data protection frameworks.
At the core of the infrastructure is the Helios platform, a rack-scale AI computing architecture engineered for high-density model training and inference. The system integrates next-generation hardware from AMD, including Instinct MI455X GPUs and EPYC “Venice” CPUs, enabling hyperscale AI performance optimized for large language models and enterprise AI workloads.
The agreement also extends beyond infrastructure. As part of the collaboration, ChatGPT Enterprise will be deployed across the broader Tata Group workforce of more than 600,000 employees. This rollout represents one of the largest private AI workplace deployments globally, embedding generative AI tools across engineering, consulting, manufacturing, and business operations.
The project includes a planned 1-gigawatt AI data center build-out across multiple phases and is supported by a $1 billion investment from TPG. Strategically, the platform will function as a major regional node within the broader $500 billion global Stargate AI infrastructure strategy, ensuring that OpenAI’s most advanced models can operate with low latency and high reliability for India’s rapidly growing AI ecosystem, which already supports more than 100 million weekly users.
