Digital Realty BCN1: 14MW Mediterranean Interconnection Gateway

Status: Live / Operational (Launched May 18, 2026)   |   Location: Sant Adrià de Besòs Innovation Area, Barcelona, Catalonia

Project Overview

Officially launched on May 18, 2026, Digital Realty BCN1 is a cutting-edge 14MW facility marking the company's grand entrance into the Barcelona data center market. Strategically positioned within the Sant Adrià de Besòs innovation district, BCN1 acts as an essential Southern European network engine, connecting local and international enterprises to a massive subsea and terrestrial connectivity web. The site is uniquely positioned near major global subsea cable landings (including the high-capacity 2Africa and Medusa cable networks), enabling low-latency data traffic routing across the Americas, Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Operating under the umbrella of PlatformDIGITAL®, Digital Realty’s unified global infrastructure layer, the campus is engineered from the ground up to support high-density AI application rollouts and demanding data localization regulations. Cultivated in strict accordance with the European Climate Neutral Data Centre Pact (CNDCP), BCN1 integrates advanced, energy-efficient mechanical and electrical cooling loops; sources 100% renewable energy; and implements an ultra-low emission backup generation system running completely on HVO100 (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) renewable biodiesel.
