Project Overview

Digital Realty CH1 is a 485,000 sq ft single-story data center located on a 22-acre campus at 2200 Busse Road in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, providing large-scale infrastructure for enterprise colocation and high-density computing in the Chicago market. Originally developed by DuPont Fabros Technology, the facility delivers 36.5 MW of critical IT capacity backed by an 80 MW total utility power footprint, providing substantial electrical infrastructure to support current deployments and scalable data center operations. CH1 supports enterprise colocation and high-density server configurations of up to 20 kW per cabinet, allowing customers to deploy compute environments with greater power requirements while maintaining a scalable infrastructure platform. N+2 UPS redundancy provides additional electrical capacity beyond the level required for normal operation, supporting resilience during maintenance and equipment events. The mechanical infrastructure uses air-cooled chillers for thermal management, providing the cooling capacity required to support the facility’s extensive IT load. As part of Digital Realty’s flagship Elk Grove Village campus, CH1 is integrated into a broader connectivity ecosystem serving enterprises, cloud platforms, and network providers. Subterranean carrier-neutral dark fiber routes connect the facility directly to 350 East Cermak Road, one of Chicago’s major interconnection locations, providing access to a dense network and carrier environment. CH1 also connects to global cloud providers through Digital Realty’s Service Fabric, supporting direct interconnection for hybrid cloud, multicloud, and enterprise applications. Its combination of 36.5 MW of critical IT capacity, 80 MW utility power infrastructure, 22-acre campus footprint, high-density cabinet support, resilient UPS architecture, and diverse fiber connectivity positions CH1 as a substantial component of Digital Realty’s Chicago-area data center platform.
