Digital Realty Lelystad Hyperscale Data Center Campus
Status: Planning / Pre-construction | Location: Flevokust Haven Industrial Estate, Lelystad, Netherlands
Project Overview
The Digital Realty Lelystad Data Center Campus represents a highly strategic expansion of Europe's FLAP (Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, Paris) data center market, positioned approximately 55 kilometers east of Amsterdam in Lelystad, Netherlands. Located at the Flevokust Haven industrial estate, this massive €1.5 billion ($1.7 billion USD) hyperscale campus directly addresses the severe land and power constraints within the primary Amsterdam metropolitan market. By establishing a major footprint in Flevoland, the development extends the regional digital ecosystem outward while maintaining low-latency dark fiber connectivity to the main Amsterdam internet exchanges. The campus layout is meticulously engineered for the next wave of artificial intelligence and cloud computing infrastructure. Comprising three specialized two-story data center buildings, the facility is structurally built with reinforced concrete and modular steel frameworks to support high-density server configurations. To handle the significant thermal footprints generated by modern GPU clusters, the data halls incorporate advanced hybrid cooling systems, combining direct-to-chip liquid cooling manifolds with high-efficiency air-cooled chillers. This mechanical design enables the campus to target an exceptionally low Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.18, aligning with strict Dutch and European environmental standards.
