Project Overview

The Equinix LS1, also known as the Lisbon LS1 IBX Data Center, is a flagship carrier-neutral International Business Exchange™ facility operated by Equinix at Av. Severiano Falcão 14 in Prior Velho, Lisbon, Portugal. Originally acquired through Equinix’s acquisition of Itconic, formerly Carrierhouse Lisbon, the facility has become an important interconnection gateway for Portugal, linking Iberian enterprise infrastructure with international telecommunications networks, trans-Atlantic subsea cable systems, cloud service providers, and global Internet exchanges. LS1 spans approximately 5,295 square meters of gross building space, including around 1,487 square meters of technical white space distributed across a three-story reinforced concrete structure. Built to Tier III-equivalent standards, the facility incorporates resilient infrastructure designed to support mission-critical workloads and high-availability network environments. Its electrical architecture provides 2N power redundancy, while high-density cooling capabilities enable the facility to accommodate demanding server, networking, cloud, and enterprise deployments. As a carrier-neutral facility, LS1 provides customers with access to a broad ecosystem of telecommunications carriers, network operators, cloud platforms, and digital service providers, supporting efficient interconnection and flexible connectivity options. The facility also provides direct access to Equinix Fabric® and GigaPIX, helping organizations establish private, scalable connections to cloud and network services while facilitating efficient Internet traffic exchange within Portugal. Its strategic position in Prior Velho, close to Humberto Delgado Airport and central Lisbon, provides convenient access to major business and telecommunications infrastructure while supporting low-latency connectivity across the metropolitan area. Through its extensive interconnection ecosystem, resilient technical design, and proximity to Portugal’s international network infrastructure, Equinix LS1 plays a central role in Lisbon’s digital economy. The facility supports enterprises, cloud providers, content networks, financial organizations, and telecommunications companies seeking secure colocation and high-performance connectivity between Portugal, Iberia, and global markets.
