Equinix SV18 Data Center Great Oaks San Jose

Status: Under Construction   |   Location: 127 Great Oaks Boulevard (Great Oaks South Campus), San Jose, California 95119, U.S.

Project Overview

The Equinix SV18 Silicon Valley IBX Data Center is a purpose-built International Business Exchange facility located at 127 Great Oaks Boulevard in San Jose, Santa Clara County, California, United States. Developed and operated by Equinix, Inc., the project expands the company’s Great Oaks campus, joining nearby facilities including SV1, SV5, SV10, and SV12x. The two-story building spans 158,600 square feet within an 18-acre site and is designed to accommodate up to 3,744 server cabinets across eight data halls. Its planned infrastructure supports high-density colocation, hybrid multicloud connectivity, and AI-ready computing for enterprise platforms, software companies, cloud providers, and digital health networks across Northern California.

SV18 is designed to provide the power, cooling, physical security, and network connectivity required by demanding enterprise and cloud workloads. Through Equinix Fabric, customers can establish software-defined virtual connections to participating cloud providers, network operators, and regional peering ecosystems, helping organizations link distributed infrastructure and build flexible hybrid and multicloud environments. The facility’s structural design includes mechanically stabilized earth retaining walls and seismic engineering intended to address the conditions of the San Francisco Bay Area. These engineering measures are particularly relevant in a region where infrastructure resilience is an important consideration for continuous digital operations. In line with Equinix’s Future First sustainability program, the facility is supported by contracts for 100% renewable energy coverage. Commercial commissioning is targeted for Q2 2026, according to the supplied project information.

San Jose’s concentration of technology companies, software developers, cloud services, and digital health organizations creates a substantial market for interconnected data center infrastructure. By expanding the Great Oaks campus, SV18 is intended to provide additional colocation capacity while allowing customers to connect with Equinix’s broader digital ecosystem. Its eight-hall configuration and planned cabinet capacity offer a framework for serving varied enterprise requirements, including high-density computing and AI-related deployments. The facility’s ultimate contribution will depend on commissioning progress, available power, and customer deployment. Overall, Equinix SV18 represents a major planned addition to Silicon Valley’s digital infrastructure, combining large-scale colocation capacity, cloud interconnection, seismic engineering, and a stated renewable energy commitment.
