Project Overview

The Firmus Wesley Vale AI Factory is a proposed 52.0 MW high-density cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure facility planned at 226 Mill Road, Wesley Vale, Tasmania 7307, Australia. Developed by Firmus Technologies as part of its national Project Southgate sovereign compute rollout, the project is intended to establish advanced domestic computing capacity while redeveloping previously modified industrial land within the former Wesley Vale Pulp Mill precinct. The development occupies an approximately 3,500-square-metre footprint and is planned as a compact, single-story facility centered around a principal data hall of approximately 2,690 square metres. The AI Factory is designed primarily to support high-performance computing (HPC), artificial intelligence model training, inference, and other computationally intensive workloads requiring substantial power and high-density cooling infrastructure. A key feature of the project is its direct electricity connection to the adjacent TasNetworks Wesley Vale substation, providing the facility with a dedicated pathway to the local electricity network. The project also incorporates Firmus Technologies' AI FactoryOS platform, which is designed to enable dynamic demand response and optimize electricity consumption according to grid conditions, potentially allowing computing loads to respond more flexibly to available power. For thermal management, the facility will utilize Firmus's proprietary HyperCube immersion and liquid-cooling technology, supporting high-density computing while reducing the cooling requirements associated with conventional air-cooled data centers. The combination of direct grid connectivity, demand-responsive computing, and advanced cooling is intended to improve operational efficiency and reduce the environmental footprint of the facility. By repurposing an established industrial site rather than developing an entirely undeveloped location, the Wesley Vale AI Factory also represents a model for integrating new digital infrastructure into existing industrial areas. With its substantial 52 MW planned capacity and focus on sovereign AI and HPC workloads, the project forms part of Firmus Technologies' broader strategy to expand Australia's high-density computing infrastructure.
