Project Overview

The Firmus Bell Bay AI Factory, designated by the project aliases GEE01 and GEE02, is a proposed 288.0 MW flagship sovereign artificial intelligence infrastructure campus planned at Lot 1 East Tamar Highway, Long Reach, Tasmania 7248, Australia, within the Bell Bay Advanced Manufacturing Zone. Developed by Australian AI cloud and digital infrastructure provider Firmus Technologies, the project is intended to establish large-scale sovereign computing capacity for advanced artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and supercomputing workloads. The development is planned on the previously cleared industrial platform of the former Gunns pulp mill site near George Town, allowing the project to repurpose an established industrial location for a new generation of digital infrastructure. The campus is designed to support high-density frontier AI model training and inference workloads, including deployments based on NVIDIA GB300 platforms and future-generation Vera Rubin systems. Its planned configuration includes two purpose-built AI data halls containing a total of 36 standardized Firmus HyperCube liquid-cooled infrastructure modules, providing a scalable architecture for dense computing deployments. The facility is expected to have a maximum power demand of approximately 288 MW and will receive electricity through dual 220 kV connections to the Sheffield-to-George Town transmission corridor. Access to Tasmania's predominantly renewable electricity system is a central element of the project's sovereign AI infrastructure strategy, potentially enabling high-performance computing operations with a comparatively low-carbon electricity supply. For thermal management, the campus will incorporate closed-circuit adiabatic cooling technology designed to support high-density AI computing while minimizing water consumption. The combination of substantial power capacity, advanced liquid cooling, renewable electricity access, and repurposed industrial land positions the Bell Bay AI Factory as a major proposed development within Australia's emerging sovereign AI infrastructure sector. Its scale and planned computing architecture also reflect the increasing demand for dedicated facilities capable of supporting next-generation AI models and increasingly power-intensive accelerated computing systems.
