Google Project Zodiac Fort Wayne: $2B+ 1.2GW AI Expansion

Status: Operational / Phase 3 Expansion Under Review (March 2026)   |   Location: Adams Center & Paulding Roads, Fort Wayne

Project Overview

Project Zodiac represents Google’s $2 billion strategic entry into the Indiana data center market, with a large-scale campus located in southeast Fort Wayne. The development has rapidly progressed into a key AI and cloud infrastructure hub, achieving a major milestone in December 2025 when its first data center building became operational. This initial deployment already supports critical workloads, including training and inference operations for Google’s Gemini AI models and core Google Cloud services, positioning the site as a foundational node in the company’s expanding AI infrastructure network.

As of March 17, 2026, Google has formally advanced plans for Phase 3 of the campus, proposing the addition of three new data center buildings totaling more than 860,000 square feet. This expansion is currently under regulatory review by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, with a public comment period open through April 3, 2026. The scale of the expansion reflects growing demand for high-density compute capacity, particularly for AI model training, which requires significant power, cooling, and land resources.

A distinctive engineering challenge at the site involves the rerouting of a substantial հատված of Adams Ditch to accommodate the large building footprints. This level of land and waterway modification highlights the complexity of hyperscale campus design, where infrastructure must be adapted to support both physical expansion and environmental compliance. To offset ecological impact, Google has committed $1.2 million to the ACRES Land Trust, enabling the protection of 22 acres within the Saint Joseph Watershed. This initiative is designed to enhance regional water sustainability by recharging an estimated 500 million gallons annually into the local aquifer.

Upon full buildout, Project Zodiac is expected to support up to 200 permanent high-tech jobs, reinforcing Fort Wayne’s emergence as a growing data center and AI infrastructure hub while contributing to broader economic and environmental sustainability objectives in the region.
