The Green Data Spaceport America is a proposed sustainable micro-data center demonstration facility on approximately 50 acres of State Trust Land at Spaceport America near Engle in Sierra County, New Mexico, designed to demonstrate how digital infrastructure can operate with reduced dependence on conventional utility and water resources in an arid environment. Developed by Canadian company Green Data, the project proposes two 11,000-square-foot data center buildings with an initial combined power capacity of approximately 10 MW, creating a compact platform for high-density computing and sustainable data center technologies. A defining feature of the development is its planned off-grid or low-grid-impact power architecture, combining dedicated on-site solar photovoltaic generation with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to provide electricity and reduce dependence on conventional grid infrastructure. This approach is particularly relevant to remote data center development, where grid availability can be limited and extending high-capacity transmission infrastructure can be costly. The project's cooling and water strategy is equally distinctive, with the facility designed around self-contained closed-loop liquid cooling that minimizes conventional water consumption. To address the challenges of operating in New Mexico's dry desert climate, the development incorporates Atmospheric Water Generation (AWG) technology, which is designed to extract moisture directly from ambient air for use within the cooling system. This creates a potentially useful water source without relying heavily on municipal supplies or conventional groundwater resources. The compact two-building configuration allows the project to function as a demonstration platform for technologies that could potentially be applied to other water-constrained or remote data center locations. By combining 10 MW of initial capacity, solar PV, battery storage, closed-loop liquid cooling and atmospheric water generation, Green Data Spaceport America takes a different approach from conventional hyperscale developments that depend heavily on large utility and water networks. Its location at Spaceport America also provides a distinctive setting for demonstrating resilient digital infrastructure technologies in a challenging desert environment.
