Project Overview

The Norwich Apex Data Centre is a proposed 150 MW hyperscale data centre development on a 32-acre site adjoining Ipswich Road and the B1113 near Keswick in South Norfolk, UK, designed to provide substantial new computing capacity for the region's expanding cloud and artificial intelligence requirements. Developed by Norwich Apex Ltd, the proposal replaces previously approved plans for an industrial business park with purpose-built digital infrastructure centered on a 20-meter-high, two-storey data centre. The development also includes a dedicated two-storey energy centre with an on-site electrical substation, providing the supporting power infrastructure required for high-density computing and helping establish a resilient energy framework for continuous operations. A separate three-storey office facility is planned as part of the wider development, supporting operational and administrative functions associated with the campus. The proposed 150 MW capacity gives the project significant potential to accommodate power-intensive AI workloads, where dense GPU deployments require substantially greater electrical capacity than conventional enterprise computing. The project's energy strategy is designed to utilize offshore renewable power supplied through the grid, aligning the development with the UK's expanding offshore wind generation capacity and broader transition toward lower-carbon electricity. Cooling is another central element of the design, with the facility planning to use closed-loop direct-to-chip liquid cooling systems to manage the concentrated thermal loads generated by high-density computing hardware. Direct-to-chip cooling can provide more efficient heat transfer from GPUs and other accelerated computing components while supporting higher rack densities than traditional air-cooling systems. The project's location near Keswick also provides access to the wider Norwich and East Anglia technology market while maintaining a relatively compact development footprint.
