Green ZRH1 Zurich West Data Center Campus: High-Density Lupfig Hub
Status: Operational / Active Expansion (Zurich West 4) | Location: Industriestrasse 31–33, 5242 Lupfig, Aargau, Switzerland
Project Overview
Green Datacenter AG’s Metro-Campus Zurich West (ZRH1) in Lupfig, Switzerland, is a flagship sustainable digital infrastructure campus serving the strategic Zurich-Basel-Bern economic corridor. Designed to support enterprise, cloud, and high-performance computing workloads, the campus consists of multiple independent data center facilities, including Zurich West 1–4, providing a scalable and resilient environment for businesses requiring secure and energy-efficient digital infrastructure. ZRH1 delivers advanced colocation services with high-density computing capabilities, supporting rack densities of more than 25 kW per rack for demanding applications such as artificial intelligence, HPC, cloud platforms, and data-intensive workloads. The campus provides direct cloud connectivity, robust network interconnection, and carrier-neutral infrastructure to enable seamless access to regional and global digital ecosystems. Sustainability is a core element of the facility’s design, with operations powered by 100% renewable energy and optimized through advanced free-cooling technologies that significantly improve energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact. The campus also contributes to the local energy ecosystem by recovering and exporting waste heat through the “Naturenergie Eigenamt” district heating network, supporting sustainable community energy solutions while maintaining ultra-low Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) performance. With its combination of renewable energy, innovative cooling systems, high-density infrastructure, and strategic location, Green Datacenter’s Zurich West campus represents one of Switzerland’s leading examples of environmentally responsible and future-ready data center development.
