Project Overview

The Greenfield–Finsbury Milan Data Center is a proposed €360 million ($418 million) high-density AI and cloud computing campus east of Milan in Lombardy, Italy, designed to add scalable digital infrastructure to one of Europe's major economic and technology markets. Developed through a joint venture between London-based Greenfield Group and Ireland-based Finsbury Infrastructure, the project is engineered to provide 36 MW of critical IT load backed by 80 MW of secured grid power capacity, giving the development a substantial electrical foundation for current and future computing requirements. The difference between secured grid capacity and initial IT load also provides flexibility for infrastructure growth and phased deployment as demand for AI and cloud services increases. The facility is being developed to address rising requirements from artificial intelligence, cloud platforms, enterprise computing and other high-density digital workloads, where reliable power and efficient thermal management are increasingly important. Its location east of Milan provides access to the wider Lombardy market, supporting proximity to businesses and digital services while connecting the facility to the region's established electrical and telecommunications infrastructure. A key infrastructure element is the project's planned direct connection to regional high-voltage transmission networks, helping provide the dependable electricity supply required for continuous data center operations. The campus also incorporates sustainable energy practices and advanced liquid cooling options, allowing operators to manage the higher thermal loads associated with dense computing and AI hardware more efficiently. Liquid cooling can be particularly valuable as GPU-based workloads increase rack densities beyond the requirements of conventional enterprise computing. By combining 36 MW of planned IT capacity with 80 MW of secured grid power, high-voltage network access, AI-ready infrastructure and advanced cooling options, the Greenfield–Finsbury development is positioned as a scalable addition to Italy's data center market. The project could strengthen Milan's role as a regional digital hub while providing infrastructure capable of supporting the continuing growth of AI, cloud and enterprise computing workloads.
