Status: Under Development / Master-Planned Expansion | Location: LRC Road, off Lang'ata South Road, Karen, Nairobi, Kenya
iColo’s NBO3 facility represents the latest phase in the expansion of the Nairobi Data Center Campus, reinforcing its position as one of East Africa’s leading carrier-neutral digital infrastructure hubs. Strategically located in the Karen district of Nairobi, NBO3 has been developed under Digital Realty’s global PlatformDIGITAL® ecosystem and complements the existing NBO1 and NBO2 facilities to increase the campus’s total utility power capacity to more than 20 MW. Purpose-built to meet the growing demands of hyperscale cloud providers, telecommunications operators, content delivery networks, financial institutions, government agencies, and multinational enterprises, the facility is engineered to support high-density computing environments, enterprise colocation, cloud services, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and high-performance computing (HPC) workloads. Sustainability is an integral part of the campus design, with NBO3 incorporating on-site rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) arrays alongside clean energy supplied through the local electricity grid, helping reduce carbon emissions while supporting reliable operations. As a key regional interconnection hub, the campus hosts the Kenya Internet Exchange Point (KIXP), enabling efficient domestic internet traffic exchange and reducing network latency across East Africa. It also benefits from direct fiber connectivity to the subsea cable landing stations in Mombasa, providing high-capacity international network access to Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Combined with Digital Realty’s global connectivity ecosystem, scalable infrastructure, renewable energy integration, and strategic network positioning, iColo’s NBO3 facility strengthens the Nairobi Data Center Campus as a future-ready platform supporting cloud expansion, AI innovation, and digital transformation throughout East Africa.
