Lumen Richmond 2 Data Center Staples Mill Road Henrico County Virginia

Status: Operational / Active Colocation & Network Gateway Facility   |   Location: 8145 Staples Mill Road, Richmond, VA 23228, United States

Project Overview

The Lumen Richmond 2 Data Center, located at 8145 Staples Mill Road in Henrico County, Virginia, serves as a network-dense colocation and point-of-presence gateway supporting the Greater Richmond metropolitan region. Designed to provide secure enterprise colocation, cabinet deployments, telecommunications infrastructure, and direct integration with Lumen’s global Tier-1 fiber backbone, the facility provides approximately 2.2 MW of gross utility power capacity and 1.8 MW of critical IT load across its secure data center environment. Utility power is supplied through high-reliability feeds from Dominion Energy, supported by static N+1 uninterruptible power supply systems, dedicated DC power plant infrastructure, and emergency standby diesel generators to provide multiple layers of operational resilience. Environmental conditions are maintained through N+1 precision cooling and HVAC systems designed to regulate temperature and humidity while supporting reliable operation of customer networking and computing equipment. Strategically positioned outside the highly concentrated Northern Virginia data center market, Richmond 2 functions as an important regional network hub connecting enterprises, carriers, cloud platforms, and telecommunications providers throughout Central Virginia. The facility incorporates dual subterranean fiber entry points that provide physically diverse connectivity pathways and support resilient access to regional telecommunications networks. Carrier-neutral connectivity enables customers to access multiple network providers, while direct fiber connections provide routes toward regional cable landing infrastructure and major Ashburn peering and interconnection exchanges. Physical security is supported through controlled access, multi-factor authentication, continuous monitoring, secured equipment areas, and layered perimeter protection. With its resilient electrical architecture, redundant cooling systems, diverse fiber connectivity, and strategic location along major Mid-Atlantic network routes, Lumen Richmond 2 provides a reliable platform for enterprise connectivity, cloud access, telecommunications, edge computing, and mission-critical network services across the Richmond market.
