The CyrusOne MIL2 data center in Segrate, East Milan, represents a vital expansion of Italy's hyperscale cloud capabilities and AI-ready digital infrastructure. Announced in April 2025 following the developer’s strategic acquisition of an 18.5-acre site, this state-of-the-art facility builds upon the existing campus to address the intense compute requirements of multinational enterprises and cloud providers in Southern Europe. Delivering 54 megawatts (MW) of critical IT capacity across 18,000 square meters of highly optimized technical space, the multi-story structure is custom-engineered to handle dense, next-generation AI and high-performance computing (HPC) server deployments. The project is highly integrated with regional utility infrastructure. CyrusOne partnered directly with Italy's national grid operator, TERNA, transferring 8,300 square meters of land to expand the adjacent Lambrate substation. This enables a massive dual-active 90 MVA power supply at 220kV to cleanly feed the campus. Built with sustainability at its core, MIL2 utilizes a water-free closed-loop cooling system optimized to maximize free cooling hours. Additionally, the building is architected "heat-reuse ready" to supply captured thermal energy back into the local municipality while aiming for a minimum BREEAM "Very Good" environmental certification.
