Equinix MD6 Madrid 3.5MW Colocation Campus

Status: Operational   |   Location: Calle de la Pedriza, 12, 28108 Alcobendas, Madrid, Spain

Project Overview

The Equinix MD6 International Business Exchange (IBX) data center in Alcobendas, Madrid, serves as a hyper-connected cornerstone for Spain's digital economy and a vital hub for the European financial markets. Launched in August 2022, the facility spans 15,780 square feet of optimized colocation space, offering 3.5 megawatts (MW) of critical IT load. Engineered to handle high-density enterprise configurations, MD6 supports power densities reaching 10 kilowatts (kW) per rack, making it perfectly suited for modern high-performance computing (HPC) and NVIDIA GPU-accelerated workloads. A major milestone for the facility is its selection by Bolsas y Mercados Españoles (BME), a subsidiary of the SIX Group, to host its new "Equinox" equity trading platform. BME is actively migrating its matching engines and colocation services to MD6, with full transition finalized by Q2 2027. This high-frequency ecosystem is further enhanced by Transaction Network Services (TNS), which provides ultra-low latency Layer 1 and Layer 3 network pathways. Operating with an N+1 water-cooled configuration and evaporative cooling towers, the data center achieves high energy efficiency. Furthermore, MD6 operates on a 100% renewable energy mix, backed by solar Virtual Power Purchase Agreements (vPPAs) within Spain.
