Mistral AI EcoDataCenter 150MW Sustainable Sweden AI Campus
Status: Under Construction | Location: Falun, Sweden
Project Overview
The EcoDataCenter Sweden expansion project represents a premier sustainable "AI Factory" model deployed outside India. Formally launched through an anchor partnership with French artificial intelligence pioneer Mistral AI, this multi-facility development is engineered specifically to process large language models (LLMs) and advanced deep learning generative systems. Situated on an eco-focused campus in Dalarna County, Sweden, the project features a total investment value of $1.4 billion USD. The site leverages the region's abundant clean energy resources and cold climate to balance intense processing requirements with world-class environmental metrics. Architecturally, the campus is designed specifically to handle extreme hardware setups that traditional data warehouses cannot accommodate. Rather than hosting legacy corporate computing setups, the server rooms are optimized for next-generation hardware configurations, including high-density server racks pulling up to 100kW+ each. The site will deploy NVIDIA’s advanced Vera Rubin GPU platforms, which demand intense electrical currents and massive thermal regulation. To successfully control this thermal environment, the facility integrates direct-to-chip liquid cooling systems. Crucially, the engineering design connects to the municipal energy grid operated by Falu Energi & Vatten. Instead of venting hot exhaust into the atmosphere, the building captures server waste heat and redirects it directly into a local wood pellet factory and district heating network, creating a fully circular energy loop.
