Solleftea atNorth 300MW High-Density Nordic AI Campus
Status: Under Construction (Phase 1 Framing) | Location: SWE04 Industrial Zone, Solleftea, Sweden
Project Overview
The Solleftea atNorth SWE04 Mega Site represents the latest frontier in sustainable, high-density AI infrastructure across the Nordic region. Backed by a multi-billion-dollar acquisition and funding package orchestrated by Equinix and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), this ambitious 300MW development is strategically situated in Solleftea, Sweden. The campus is engineered explicitly to process intensive high-performance computing (HPC) pipelines, large language model (LLM) training, and enterprise-scale AI inference engines. By capitalizing on Sweden’s abundant land availability and favorable cool climate conditions, atNorth has structured a multi-building ecosystem capable of taking pressure off traditional, heavily power-constrained continental European cloud hubs such as Frankfurt and London. Architecturally, the facility breaks away from standard concrete-and-steel conventions by introducing structural Glulam timber elements and low-carbon precast building matrices, significantly minimizing embedded carbon footprints from the foundation up. Power infrastructure is tied directly into the regional 400kV utility grid managed by Vattenfall, drawing continuous baseload energy directly from neighboring hydroelectric facilities on the Angermanalven River. This guarantees a 100% renewable power profile. To handle dense, next-generation liquid-cooled server racks that easily scale up to 120 kW per cabinet, the site integrates an advanced closed-loop Direct-to-Chip (DTC) liquid cooling layout.
