Stargate Argentina: $25B 500MW Patagonia AI Supercluster

Status: Planning / Letter of Intent Signed (Oct 2025)   |   Location: Patagonia (High-Wind Corridor)

Project Overview

Formally announced in October 2025, Stargate Argentina represents a $25 billion partnership between OpenAI and Sur Energy, marking the first Stargate node in Latin America. The project leverages Argentina’s RIGI (Incentive Regime for Large Investments) to attract long-term technology capital, positioning the country as a strategic hub for advanced AI development. Designed as a high-efficiency training center, the facility focuses on Spanish-language and regional large language models, aiming to meet the growing demand for localized AI solutions.

The campus is strategically located in Patagonia, taking advantage of abundant wind energy and naturally cool ambient temperatures, which significantly reduce operational cooling costs and enhance sustainability. A key technical milestone involves a supply agreement with AMD, which will provide up to six gigawatts of Instinct GPUs to the broader Stargate network, with Patagonia serving as a primary deployment site. Despite Argentina’s economic volatility, the initiative aims to create a “Gravity Well” for South American talent, offering local developers early access to cutting-edge compute resources and APIs. By combining renewable energy, advanced GPU infrastructure, and regional AI specialization, Stargate Argentina positions itself as a cornerstone of Latin America’s AI ecosystem, fostering innovation while anchoring critical compute capacity within the region.
