Stargate Wisconsin Lighthouse: 1GW OpenAI-Oracle AI Hub
Status: Active Construction / Pre-Operational (April 2026) | Location: Port Washington (Ozaukee County), Wisconsin
Project Overview
Officially designated as the Lighthouse Campus, this development represents the first “Stargate” expansion site in the U.S. Midwest and forms a key pillar of the massive 4.5GW partnership between OpenAI and Oracle. Engineered with sustainability at its core, the campus is architected to operate on 100% matched zero-emission energy, setting a new benchmark for hyperscale infrastructure. In collaboration with WEC Energy Group, Vantage Data Centers is enabling the addition of nearly 2 GW of new renewable energy capacity, including solar, wind, and battery storage, into the regional grid. Notably, 30% of this capacity is allocated to local Wisconsin consumers, helping stabilize energy costs and prevent rate increases, which underscores the project’s community-conscious approach.
Technologically, the campus integrates a highly efficient closed-loop liquid cooling system designed to support next-generation AI and high-density compute workloads. Complementing this is a strong commitment to “water positivity," ensuring that the facility replenishes more freshwater into local ecosystems than it consumes, addressing one of the most pressing concerns in large-scale data center operations. As of April 2026, the Lighthouse Campus has also emerged as a powerful economic driver, supporting approximately 4,000 majority-union construction jobs and stimulating regional growth. Environmental integration is further enhanced through the use of an 8-foot planted berm composed of native species, which serves as a natural noise and visual barrier while promoting local biodiversity.
