Vantage QC21: 86MW Hydro-Powered AI Giga-Campus
Status: Operational / Active Expansion (April 2026) | Location: 30-acre campus in Quebec City
Project Overview
As of April 2026, Vantage has solidified its Quebec City campus as one of the most sustainable and strategically positioned high-density data center hubs in North America, reinforcing Canada’s growing role in the global AI infrastructure landscape. Technically, the QC21 facility is a purpose-built Tier III data center engineered to take full advantage of Quebec’s naturally cold climate and abundant renewable power resources. The campus is supplied by nearly 100% hydroelectricity from Hydro-Québec, providing customers with access to some of the cleanest electricity and most competitive industrial power rates in Canada. A standout technical feature of the site is its intelligent free cooling architecture, which relies on outside air economization for approximately 86% of the year, substantially lowering mechanical cooling demand and improving overall energy efficiency metrics such as Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE). This climate-driven design gives the campus a structural advantage over warmer competing markets where cooling costs remain a major operating burden. Following Vantage’s recent CAD $900 million investment into Canadian operations, the Quebec City site has been further enhanced with high-density slab floor retrofits and upgraded electrical systems capable of supporting the substantial power envelopes required by modern GPU clusters, accelerated compute nodes, and large-scale AI foundation model training. These combined advantages position the Quebec campus as a premier destination for enterprises seeking low-carbon, cost-efficient, and AI-ready hyperscale capacity.
