Status: Under Construction / Strategic Italian Flagship Hub | Location: Via Brennero, 20007 Cornaredo (MI), Italy
The VIRTUS MILAN1 Data Center, also known as the VIRTUS Cornaredo Campus or MIL1, is a flagship European hyperscale data center development owned and operated by VIRTUS Data Centres, a subsidiary of ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC), in Cornaredo within the Metropolitan City of Milan, Lombardy, Italy. Located along Via Brennero, the approximately 15-hectare campus occupies a strategic position within Milan's western digital infrastructure corridor, an increasingly important area for large-scale data center development and telecommunications connectivity. The campus is master-planned to deliver approximately 30 MW of critical IT load capacity, providing scalable infrastructure for hyperscale cloud providers, enterprise customers and artificial intelligence workloads requiring high-density computing environments. MILAN1 is designed around Tier III equivalent availability principles and incorporates multiple layers of electrical resilience, including dual A+B high-voltage grid connections, 2N static uninterruptible power supply configurations and standby emergency diesel generation. These systems are intended to support continuous operation of critical computing infrastructure and reduce exposure to individual electrical failures. Cooling infrastructure is designed to accommodate both conventional enterprise workloads and increasingly demanding AI and high-performance computing environments, with energy-efficient thermal architectures and direct-to-chip liquid-cooling capability providing a pathway for higher rack densities. Connectivity is another defining feature of the campus. VIRTUS MILAN1 is integrated into Milan's metropolitan fiber ecosystem and provides high-capacity network routes toward MIX, the Milan Internet eXchange, as well as other important European connectivity gateways. This enables customers to connect with carriers, cloud platforms, internet service providers and other digital infrastructure operators across Italy and Europe. The Cornaredo location provides proximity to Milan's major commercial and technology markets while offering the land availability required for a large-scale hyperscale campus. As cloud adoption, artificial intelligence and data-intensive computing continue to drive demand for additional capacity across Europe, developments such as MILAN1 are becoming increasingly important to the regional digital infrastructure landscape. The VIRTUS Cornaredo Campus expands the company's European footprint while contributing additional hyperscale capacity to Milan's rapidly developing western data center corridor. Its combination of scalable IT capacity, resilient electrical infrastructure, advanced cooling capabilities and extensive fiber connectivity positions MILAN1 as a significant infrastructure platform for cloud, enterprise and AI workloads in Italy and the wider European market.
