Woodland Cree First Nation

Woodland Cree First Nation is an Indigenous community in northern Alberta that is expanding its economic development activities into large-scale digital infrastructure. Through a 51% ownership position in Mihta Askiy Datacenter LP, the Nation is partnering with Sovereign Digital Infrastructure on a proposed data center and energy project at the former Carmon Creek site. The development is planned to reach approximately 650 MW, with an initial 400 MW data center configuration and on-site natural gas generation. The facility is being designed for high-density AI workloads and will use new transmission infrastructure connected to Alberta’s electricity system. The project represents a major Indigenous-led data center development in Canada.
