Sydney, Australia - March 11, 2026 - Anthropic has confirmed plans to expand operations into Australia and New Zealand, establishing a regional presence in Sydney while exploring the development of local data center infrastructure to support growing demand for artificial intelligence services.

The company, known for developing the Claude family of AI models, said the Sydney office will serve as its hub for the Australia–New Zealand market, strengthening engagement with enterprises, researchers, and public-sector organizations adopting generative AI technologies.

The expansion marks the company’s latest step in the Asia-Pacific region, where Anthropic already operates offices in Tokyo, Seoul, and Bengaluru. Establishing a local presence in Australia will allow the firm to build closer partnerships with organizations seeking advanced AI tools while supporting regional development of AI applications.

Alongside the regional launch, Anthropic confirmed it is evaluating options to deploy local computing infrastructure and data-center capacity in Australia. The potential infrastructure would support AI training and inference workloads and help meet increasing demand for localized processing from organizations with data residency and regulatory requirements.

The company noted that customers in sectors such as financial services, technology, and research institutions are increasingly requesting AI workloads to be processed within national borders to ensure compliance with data governance policies.

Australia has become a rapidly growing market for AI adoption. According to company statements cited in industry reports, the country ranks among the top global markets for usage of Anthropic’s Claude platform on a per-capita basis, reflecting strong demand from both enterprises and individual users.

Anthropic already works with several major Australian organizations, including the design platform Canva and the financial institution Commonwealth Bank of Australia, which are integrating AI capabilities into their products and operations.

The company’s expansion into Australia comes amid a broader global push by AI developers to secure localized computing capacity and data-center infrastructure capable of supporting the rapidly increasing power and performance requirements of large-scale AI models.

By exploring domestic infrastructure options, Anthropic aims to strengthen the availability of secure, high-performance AI computing resources for organizations across Australia and New Zealand as adoption of generative AI continues to accelerate.
