San Francisco, California, United States - May 6, 2026 - Anthropic has announced a major compute partnership with SpaceX that will significantly expand infrastructure capacity for its Claude AI platform, enabling the company to raise usage limits for Claude Code and its API services as competition in the AI market intensifies.
Under the agreement, Anthropic will gain access to the full compute capacity of SpaceX’s Colossus 1 data center, adding more than 300 megawatts of new capacity and over 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs within the next month. The additional infrastructure is expected to directly support Claude Pro and Claude Max subscribers, according to the company.
The announcement comes as AI developers face increasing pressure to secure large-scale compute resources capable of supporting rapidly growing demand for generative AI and coding assistants. Anthropic said the expanded capacity will allow it to substantially increase rate limits for Claude Code and the Claude API while also improving service reliability.
Alongside the infrastructure expansion, Anthropic confirmed that it is doubling Claude Code usage limits for Pro and Max users and removing peak-hour restrictions across most paid plans. The company said the changes are intended to improve developer access as adoption of AI-assisted software development accelerates.
The partnership marks a notable alliance between Anthropic and Elon Musk’s SpaceX, particularly given Musk’s previous criticism of Anthropic and competing AI firms. Recent reports indicate the relationship evolved following discussions between Musk and Anthropic leadership regarding AI safety and long-term infrastructure development.
Industry analysts view the deal as part of a broader shift in the AI sector, where access to power and compute infrastructure is becoming a defining competitive advantage. Training and running frontier AI models now require massive GPU clusters and increasingly specialized data center environments capable of supporting high-density deployments.
Anthropic has been aggressively expanding its infrastructure partnerships in recent months, including agreements with Amazon, Google, and other compute providers to secure long-term AI capacity. The new SpaceX partnership further strengthens the company’s ability to scale Claude amid rising enterprise demand.
The agreement also highlights SpaceX’s growing ambitions in AI infrastructure. Reports suggest the companies are exploring longer-term collaboration opportunities, including the potential development of orbital or space-based data centers powered by solar energy.
The announcement was made during Anthropic’s first developer conference in San Francisco, where the company also introduced new Claude capabilities aimed at improving autonomous AI workflows and coding performance.
