Milan, Italy, October 1, 2025-  Echelon Data Centres has announced a major expansion into Italy with a EUR 3 billion (USD 3.53 billion) investment to develop a large-scale data centre campus near Milan. The new site, acquired in partnership with controlled affiliates of Starwood Capital Group, spans 37 acres and is already connected to the grid, offering 100 MVA of immediately available power, scalable to 250 MVA.

Named LIN10, the campus is expected to become one of the largest and most advanced data centres in Italy. Construction will start immediately, with operations projected to begin within 18 to 24 months.

According to Echelon CEO Niall Molloy, the facility will provide “exceptional opportunities for hyperscale operators,” supporting Italy’s growing demand for digital infrastructure and AI-driven workloads.

This investment is part of Echelon’s broader European expansion. The company currently operates seven data centres across Ireland, the UK, and Spain, with a combined capacity of approximately 1.25 GW, and plans to add 1.5 GW of capacity over the next five years. David Smith, Chief Investment Officer at Echelon, noted that entering Italy represents “another significant milestone” in the company’s growth trajectory.

Maximilian Gentile, Senior Vice President at Starwood Capital, added that the investment underscores Echelon’s commitment to delivering “power and scale to help customers meet the requirements of an increasingly AI-driven digital economy.”

The LIN10 campus aims to serve hyperscale operators and enterprise clients, providing a scalable, energy-efficient, and fully connected environment. Echelon’s move into Italy marks a significant step in strengthening the European data centre ecosystem and supporting the region’s digital transformation.
