Tokyo, Japan, August 27, 2025- EdgeConneX has taken another big step in Japan by securing a second data center site in the Greater Osaka and Yawata areas. Announced on August 27, 2025, the deal lifts the company’s total capacity in the country to 350 megawatts, making it one of the largest operators in the Kansai region.
The new site will add 150 MW once complete and builds on the 200 MW project EdgeConneX revealed in January this year. Construction on that first facility is due to start in early 2026, with the first phase expected to open by late 2027.
“We are thrilled to see our vision for Japan taking shape so quickly, with substantial milestones already achieved. With these two facilities, we aim not only to address the increasing need for advanced IT infrastructure but also to solidify Japan’s position as a global leader in Cloud and AI technologies. This is an exciting chapter for EdgeConneX and the broader Osaka ecosystem,” said Masahiko Inoue, Head of Japan for EdgeConneX.
Both sites are set up to handle the rising demand for artificial intelligence and cloud services. They can support extremely high-density workloads, with racks built to deliver more than 600 kilowatts each. The centers will use the company’s Ingenuity suite, built for advanced deployments with chips from NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel.
A ceremony marking the new acquisition was held on August 7, 2025, with Keihan Real Estate, one of EdgeConneX’s main partners. Both facilities will run fully on renewable energy, part of the company’s goal to be carbon, waste, and water neutral by 2030.
The expansion also ties into Japan’s national “Digital Garden City” plan, which aims to spread digital infrastructure across the country. With demand for AI and cloud infrastructure rising fast, EdgeConneX’s growing footprint in Osaka puts it at the heart of one of Asia’s fastest-moving digital markets.
